Death Cab for Cutie es una banda estadounidense de rock alternativo formada en 1997 en Bellingham, Washington. La banda está integrada por Ben Gibbard (vocalista), Nick Harmer (bajista) y Jason McGerr (baterista). En 2014, el guitarrista y productor Chris Walla anunció que se apartaría de la banda después de grabar su octavo álbum de estudio, Kintsugi.
Originalmente fue un proyecto en solitario de Ben Gibbard, quien lanzó el álbum demo You Can Play These Songs with Chords, el cual tuvo una recepción positiva y lo condujo a un contrato discográfico con Barsuk Records. Gibbard decidió ampliar el proyecto en una banda completa, lanzando su álbum debut Something About Airplanes en 1998, y su segundo álbum, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes, en 2000; ambos discos tuvieron una recepción positiva en la comunidad indie. El octavo álbum de estudio, Kintsugi, último en el que participó Chris Walla, fue lanzado el 31 de marzo de 2015.
La música de Death Cab for Cutie ha sido etiquetada como indie rock, indie pop y rock alternativo.
